Our manifesto

1. The city is the question

Global opportunities and challenges have never before been so concentrated in one place. The biggest challenge of the 21st century is to connect them - something every programme in Stadsform contributes to.

2. Dialogue is the answer

Where monologue entangles with the complexity of cities, dialogue is the most hopeful way to untangle that. Every theorem calls for proof to the contrary, every reading calls for debate.

3. Stadsform

is the stage for debate about the city of tomorrow. Here goods used to be weighed and taxed before they entered the city. Now this is a place where we scale ideas about the future. We weigh visions with numbers and rate their access into the city of tomorrow.

4. About what we all share

In times where we don’t have one history, one sexual preference, one favourite music genre or one culture, we have never shared more living space. The city and the everyday life are the ultimate conversation starter for the programme of Stadsform in a more urbanized and diverse society.

5. About that one thing, but also about the other

Stadsform showcases dialogue with contrasts; theory and practice, analysis and action; global trends and local differences; thinking big and the everyday life; big corporations and small initiatives; business-as-usual and radical renewal.

6. With and for everyone

Specialists lack generalists, top-down lacks bottom-up, companies lack ngos - and visa versa. As equal ‘city makers’ Stadsform invites as many representatives from these groups as possible for a productive dialogue.

7. Together

We make the programme of Stadsform together. Every year the Waag counsil - and their partners - decide on three central themes. These are used to create diverse formats and programmes. Do you have a question or an answer for the city of tomorrow? Let us know!

8. We speak several languages

Stadsform speaks several languages to attract diverse groups of inhabitants and visitors, thinkers and makers and politicians and professionals. We use debates, documentaries, inspiring readings, city walks, workshops, expositions, pitches, book presentations and podcast recordings.

9. The day and the night

The public programme is usually set in the evening during the week. In the daytime and during the weekend we commercially rent out the space. Those who rent it during the day support the programme during the night.

10. Free contribution

On-topic and public initiatives who sign this manifest and translate it into their programme don’t pay rent, but are asked to make a free contribution.
